Disability Pride Flag Memorial Quilt

The purpose of the Disability Pride Flag Memorial Quilt is to honor any Youth Challenge participant who has died. This memorial quilt was created by the participants and volunteers of YC in 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary of the organization. It is displayed in our Westlake building as a reminder of all of those we have lost and serves to honor the deceased, foster healing, and provide a space of reflection for the community.

Disability Pride Flag

The original Disability Pride flag was created in 2019 by writer Ann Magill, who has cerebral palsy. In response to feedback from the disability community, Magill updated the design in 2021 to make it more inclusive.

Each color on the flag represents a specific group or certain aspect of the disability community (Red - physical disabilities; Gold - neurodiversity; White - invisible disabilities and disabilities that haven't yet been diagnosed; Blue - emotional and psychiatric disabilities, including mental illness, anxiety, and depression; Green - for sensory disabilities, including deafness, blindness, lack of smell, lack of taste, audio processing disorder, and all other sensory disabilities; Black- The faded black background symbolizes mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and abuse)
