Summer’s End Bash Highlights

Summer’s End Bash Highlights

What a fun end to the summer we had at Summer’s End Bash on August 3! Summer’s End Bash is an annual event for participants, volunteers, and families to come together at the end of the summer season. As always, there was delicious food and a variety of activities, ranging from basketball, sitting volleyball, water games, corn hole, bubbles, a photo booth, and even YC bingo! Water games included super soakers, reusable water balloons, and a dunk tank! Parents joined in on the fun, too, during Sitting Volleyball.

Participants and volunteers had the opportunity to get two staff members and four seniors messy by turning them into Human Sundaes. Each person had the opportunity to pour an ingredient on a staff member, such as chocolate syrup, caramel, whipped cream, sprinkles, and others!

New this year, we had raffle baskets created by members of the YC community. Attendees had many different types of baskets to choose to put their tickets in, ranging from a Go Guardians! Basket to a Minecraft Lego Basket to an Ultimate Snack Basket and more! We appreciate everyone’s generosity and creativity in creating baskets, as well as everyone’s participation in purchasing tickets! Over $1,000 was raised to support young people with physical disabilities and their teen volunteers.

At the end of the program, we recognized the Senior Volunteer class of 2024.  Seven graduating seniors (Emma Garr, Lucy Douglas, Maya Antonetti, Evan Butsch, Anders Butch, Ana Drinan, and Kerry Madden) were recognized at the Bash. Fifty-four graduating seniors will receive a Youth Challenge mug, picture of them in action, thank you note, and a YC keychain to recognize us by!

Summer’s End Bash was a perfect wrap up to a VANtastic YC summer! We look forward to creating more memories in the fall.
