A Note from Chris: Multiplying the Power of Friendship
Force multiplier is a military term used to describe a factor that allows one to accomplish significantly greater feats than without it. This term came up on a podcast I was digesting on my way home from work. The reality that we are a powerful force multiplier, while not in a military context, consumed my attention. “But for YC” is a common refrain. For many children and teen volunteers, their unique experiences at Youth Challenge profoundly shape their life trajectories.
Friendships at YC begin with a simple introduction – names, ages, what school they attend.“ That benign introduction often is the start of something much bigger. Kids from opposite sides of the Cuyahoga, who “but for YC,” would never cross paths end up becoming something bigger than themselves, immersed in a culture that upholds the core values of diversity, individuality, teamwork, acceptance, inclusion, equity, empathy, and empowerment.
Youth Challenge experiences teach, but they also inspire young people to pursue lives of service, fostering relationships enriched by love and care for our fellow person. All of this lays the foundation for positive growth and we can influence lives with exponential results. As individuals, we work hard to become force multipliers who positively impact others and amplify a team’s efforts. This leads to enhanced performance and sustained success.
If we can do this as individuals building friendships, think of what the power of YC continues to do as a force multiplier for our community and beyond!
