Board Highlight: Carl Segura

Carl Segura, a new board member at YC, is already a champion for our mission. As the general manager for Patton Painting, he heads up the organization’s Painter-for-a-Day campaign during the holiday season, a partnership with YC in which Patton Painting donates money for every painting to-do list received or consultation completed. In 2023, Patton Painting donated $2,910 to YC through the Painter-for-a-Day campaign.

“Through the Painter-a-Day campaign, I’ve not only had the chance to connect closer with the YC organization but also the amazing people who work there,” Carl said.

Patton Painting has supported YC for over 15 years through silent auction donations, staff fundraisers, coming to YC events, and eventually the annual Painter-for-a-Day campaign. Carl first learned about YC in 2016 when he took over processing silent auction donations, and a year after that, the Patton Painting Painter-for-a-Day Giveaway was born. Patton Painting does not hide its support for Youth Challenge—each Patton Painting vehicle has a YC bumper sticker!

Carl resonates in particular with the teen volunteer aspect of YC’s mission. He grew up as the son of a special education teacher, and when school was out, he helped his mom with a camp that the school ran for students with developmental disabilities.

“That was a really meaningful experience for me, just being able to be a peer and get to know kids in that situation, ” Carl said.

Carl is looking forward to not only coming to YC programs as a board member, but also bringing his own kids along. He and his wife, Eileen, have four kids—Bryce, age 11; Clara, age 9; Xavier, age 7 and CJ, age 4. As a lover of all sports, Carl coaches youth soccer for the North Olmsted Soccer Organization.

“I am excited and honored to continue to serve YC in the board role,” Carl said, “ Hopefully, I help continue all the great work YC is doing.”
