Laurel Sweet first joined YC in 2000-2005 as the Volunteer Coordinator. In 2013, Laurel returned to Youth Challenge and is currently the Outreach Manager. She is responsible for developing YC’s outreach efforts, disability awareness field trips, and adapted sports experiences for local schools and agencies. Her goal is to enhance the positive culture of Youth Challenge’s mission with all the Greater Cleveland area communities and beyond. Laurel is also responsible for creating and implementing adaptive recreational activities using therapeutic recreation procedures and adaptive equipment.
Laurel has taught Beginner ASL to many young people, including Youth Challenge volunteers. She has over 34 years of experience working in adaptive recreation in Ohio, New Hampshire, Arizona, and California. Her claim to fame is a local Mr. Hero commercial she did in the 3rd grade.
Education
Laurel received her Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in Psychology and American Sign Language from Kent State University.
