Board Highlight: Meghdeep Mukherjee
Youth Challenge and Meghdeep Mukjherjee, treasurer of the Board of Trustees, are a perfect match. Meghdeep first got connected with YC in 2014 through Business Volunteers Unlimited’s (BVU) Board Matching program.
As someone who grew up in athletics, Meghdeep resonated with YC’s mission to make sports and recreation accessible to everyone regardless of physical abilities.
“Having a platform where anybody could come in and participate regardless of your physical abilities is extremely important, because I know firsthand what the power of a team dynamic exposes you to.”
Meghdeep first joined YC as a YP4YC board member and was part of the YP4YC team that created Brats, Beer, and Brackets.
In 2019, Meghdeep joined the Board of Trustees. He has been able to use his financial skills from advising Fortune 500 companies as an Engagement Manager at Deloitte Consulting to help YC balance its budget as treasurer. He said he appreciates the culture of being part of the YC team.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been there for one day or 20 years, if you’re the CEO or if you are somebody who drives one of our YC vans,” Meghdeep said “You’re treated as a peer. You’re treated the same regardless of whether you spend 40 hours a week there or 4 hours a week there.”
When Meghdeep is not crunching numbers for YC, he and his wife Hannah are managing activities for their three-year-old daughter, Lilly, and one-year-old son, Max. Meghdeep says that being a parent has given him a new perspective on the true value of YC.
“It’s not just a place where somebody comes and drops their child off,” Meghdeep said. “It’s the amount of learning, the connections, the interactions that our participants and our volunteers and our staff get to experience.”
