Shining Light Scholarship Winners: Lucy Douglas and Kerry Madden

Since 2015, our friends at the Shining Light Charitable Corp have helped us celebrate our wonderful volunteers in a unique and meaningful way. Shining Light is an incredible organization started by Dan & Lisa Puthoff. The purpose of this organization is to raise money to benefit organizations that offer programs designed to help disabled children more fully participate in sports and physical activities.

We are thrilled to share that there are TWO winners for this year’s Shining Light award: LUCY DOUGLAS and KERRY MADDEN!

Lucy has been a volunteer with YC since the Winter of 2017 and has given over 390 hours of service, while Kerry has volunteered at YC since the Spring of 2019 and given over 330 hours of service. Both young women have landed in the Top 10 Volunteers of the Year category and have been great role models to volunteers and participants in the YC Community. Both Kerry and Lucy have been phenomenal members of the volunteer team members since they began volunteering early on. We are so grateful to have these two on Team YC.

A recent graduate of Westlake High School, Kerry will soon be attending Ohio University with an intended career track of being an intervention specialist. “YC has shaped who I am and continues to inspire me in my personal and professional life. It is a part of my past and a guiding force in my future.”

Lucy graduated from Rocky River High School and will be attending Bowling Green State University with an intended major in exercise science and pre-occupational therapy. Lucy wrote in her application, “Youth Challenge has had an enormous positive impact on my life. I have grown as a leader, learned to be more flexible and resilient, and made many wonderful friends. I have learned firsthand about disability issues and will use my knowledge to advocate for much-needed change. Finally, I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have had, and for all the incredible people at YC.”
