RECAP: YC’s Winter-Spring Season

YC just wrapped up a super fun Winter-Spring season! Winter-Spring, running January through May, is our longest program season and was jam-packed with exciting programs for all ages.
To get active, participants and volunteers practiced new skills at our sports programs: Boccia, Soccer, Goalball, Swimming, Sled Hockey, Archery, Golf, Baseball, and the popular March Madness Basketball! There was plenty of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition to see! To practice their creativity, participants and volunteers made catapults at STEM-tastic, crafted felt donuts at Food Art, created videos at Stop Animation, constructed race cars at Lego Derby, and invented marble mazes at Adapted Art & Activities. They also got to exercise their silly sides with Snakes & Ladders Sitting Volleyball at Goofy Games, Roman trivia at Gladiator Games, giant board games at Backyard Games, and team cheer competitions at Survivor Games.
Our Mini Campers had a blast at Discovery Works at the Avon Lake Public Library, where the YC Volunteer Committee led them in stations and free play. They also got to explore the amazing Cleveland Children’s Museum, where they learned with water and bubbles in the Wonder Lab, shopped at the Farmer’s Market, discovered all that Adventure City has to offer, and built their stage skills in the Theater! These full days allowed our Mini Campers to learn, explore, and have fun with their friends and volunteer partners!
Our alumni stayed in shape this season with weekly Fitness & Yoga sessions and a virtual fitness program. They also stayed connected through a variety of virtual programming, such as the Disability Empowerment series and Connecting with Disability Resources. In March, some of our alumni went to Columbus to compete with the YC Boccia Team, and it was a weekend full of laughs, memories, and, of course, great Boccia matches. The alumni love this time to connect with old friends, make new ones, and try new things!
Winter-Spring season was a blast, and we can’t wait to have more fun times this Summer!
