Fall Highlights
YC had a WOO-nderful Fall season with many fun activities!
October was a busy month for getting outside and taking our arts and crafts on the go. We headed to Emerald Necklace for Adapted Art and Activities. Each week, Megan, our Program & Arts Manager, led outdoor fall and Halloween crafts and games at the park. In addition, it was our first time offering Spooky Sports at Highland Heights Park. We played Halloween-inspired games such as Ghost in the Graveyard, Wizards/Warlocks, and Skeleton Ball. Not only that but our second annual Trunk or Treat was a huge success, paired with our Halloween party! Eighteen cars lined the YC parking lot to pass out candy, including participants’ families, volunteer families, friends of YC, and staff families. Teen volunteers and parents also donated lots of candy for this spooktacular event.
In November, we had one Friendsgiving for Mini Camp participants and another Friendsgiving for YELP and alumni participants. Our Mini Camp numbers are increasing and have doubled since 2019. Participants came from all over town to celebrate new and growing friendships. We played active games, made turkey cookies, went on a turkey feather scavenger hunt, ate lunch, and played some more. For our YELP and Alumni Friendsgiving, participants signed up to bring a dish and enjoyed fun music—each alum had an opportunity to request a song to add to the playlist! YELP and alumni participants also got the chance to hang out with YP4YC members at the Friendsgiving.
In December, participants and volunteers made a tree out of recycled materials at Festive Creations for the Elyria Arts Council’s Creative Christmas Tree contest. We took second place! Last but not least, we boarded the YC Express at our annual holiday show with a film created by Dance & Drama participants and volunteers, a volunteer recognition ceremony, and an opening improv act by our alumni participants.
Thank you everyone for such a VAN-tastic fall season! We look forward to more fun adventures in the Winter/Spring season!
