YC Celebrates Participants and Volunteers
For years, Youth Challenge has celebrated teen volunteers and participants in various ways but never with a formalized recognition of excellence. In 2024, YC emphasized the importance of excellence, leadership, and teamwork by hosting our first annual Youth Challenge Awards Night to honor our participants and volunteers! This special celebration took place on November 7, 2024 at YC’s headquarters in Westlake, Ohio. Ten participants and ten volunteers were awarded for their excellence at Youth Challenge. The night also included keynote speeches from Participant Alumna, Staff Member Sara Steimle, and Volunteer Alumna Maya Cundiff.
Akin to the many awards banquets hosted by sports teams and schools, YC’s Awards Night was an opportunity to celebrate the incredible impact made by our participants and volunteers on each other, the organization, and beyond. At Youth Challenge, young people with physical disabilities are given the opportunity to join a team, create art, or engage in recreation without barriers– something that typically isn’t possible for them at school or their local rec center.
Similarly, YC Awards Night shines a spotlight on the achievements of both our participants and volunteers in a unique way, celebrating their artistic and athletic achievements and their characters. The Youth Challenge community is thriving thanks to our participants and volunteers. The connections and friendships formed through programs build confidence and skills for participants and create empathy and a passion for inclusion for volunteers. We were grateful to celebrate just a few of those awesome young people at YC Awards Night!
