Watch the YC Crew Shine at Community Events
Youth Challenge is a place where everyone, regardless of physical ability, can have the spotlight. Participants and volunteers at YC get to enjoy a wide range of sports and activities with each other, and several times a year, they showcase their skills for the rest of us to see! Participants and volunteers spend weeks practicing or rehearsing to prepare for these events.
Youth Challenge has four Sports Showdowns: Crosstown Showdown, Baseball Showdown, Soccer Showdown, and Super Bowl Showdown. During the Crosstown Showdown, participants and volunteers split into four teams and play in a double-elimination basketball tournament. In the Baseball Showdown and Super Bowl Showdown, participants from the East Side and West Side face off against each other in baseball and football. During the Soccer Showdown, Team YC unites together to compete against a like-minded organization—Empower Sports, which provides sports opportunities to people with developmental disabilities in Northeast Ohio. Many times, the Volunteer Committee, a group of teen volunteers who work to raise funds and fun for YC, joins in on the showdown programs by having bake sales or organizing and performing half-time shows.

But sports are not the only area in which YC participants shine! There are some thespians in the YC Crew as well. The Holiday Show is an honored tradition going back several decades. YC participants and volunteers split off into groups to write skits surrounding a certain theme. Previous holiday show themes include “North Pole News” and “All Aboard the YC Express.” Over the last several years, the Holiday Show had transitioned from a live theater production to a film, but this year, we are back on stage for “Rudolph’s Radio Shack,” in partnership with Radio on the Lake Theatre. The Sports Showdowns and Holiday Show provide participant families unique opportunities to cheer on their children. They also give community members opportunities to see YC’s mission firsthand!
Don’t miss your opportunity to see the YC kids in action. Join us at the Holiday Show on December 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Near West Theater!
